The Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme
We see so often at Public Inquiries operators let down by their maintenance provider who have out of date paperwork or processes.
But how do you know your maintenance provider is using the latest PMI sheets, not something dated 2023 or even earlier, which would be missing items that the DVSA and Traffic Commissioner will be specifically looking for?
The Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) is an independent recognition with support from industry bodies, DVSA and the Office of Traffic Commissioners. Aimed at workshops of all sizes, MPRS is a single rating scheme that gauges performance and workforce quality through self assessment and audits.
The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) are managing the scheme and after successful trials in 2024, it is now live.
MPRS puts the spotlight on improving current standards across workshops and maintenance facilities across the nation, highlighting non-compliant and unsafe practices that compromise safety and standards within the commercial industry.
Choosing a workshop with an MPRS rating means your vehicles are more likely to be properly maintained and less likely to get prohibitions.
There are 5 levels;
• Qualified
• Bronze
• Silver
• Gold
• Platinum
The attached table shows the different levels and what we believe are the key selection criteria.
